I took a few liberties with this scene. The white house at the end of the alley has been restored in recent years. The brand-new roof looked a little stark and out of place to me, so I put the old roof back on. Also, I wanted to show the hills in the distance to provide a sense of space, though in reality they are not visible from this point of view.
I would call it artistic vision rather than taking liberties. You have to make the picture work and have depth. You are so good at painting buildings. Wish I could be half as good. Jean
Isn't it great when we get to the point where we can alter the scene to our vision of the importance and arrangement of the elements? This is breath taking. Something about the way the light part is shaped is just so strong!! I love your delicate touch and rich, harmonious colors!
Through this blog I would like to make my paintings more widely available to view and to buy. By keeping my blog paintings small, I can post a new one here (almost) every day, and also keep them affordable. I work primarily in watercolor and gouache, and while my choice of subject matter is not limited to one genre, you will see that I am especially drawn to all aspects of life in the city.
The paintings on this blog are available for purchase unless otherwise indicated, and include a white, acid-free mat and backing board. Costs for shipping, insurance, and sales tax where applicable, will be added. Payment is possible through PayPal; no account needed and all major credit cards accepted.
I welcome your comments on my work - thanks for visiting!
