One more little painting before I go.... After several hectic weeks, I found myself packed and ready around 11:00 this morning - one day early. So I pulled out my paints and brushes and made myself happy painting this unpretentious scene.

This painting is not included in my exhibition, because it has been sold, but I will use it in my presentation, as it is characteristic of the scenes of daily life in the older parts of Ankara. This is inside a "han" (or caravanserai), right off a busy street, that has been converted into shops selling beads, artificial flowers, clothing and such. In the center courtyard is a teashop.

Not exactly a daily painting, but one I painted two years ago and wanted to share here. It is included in my upcoming exhibit in Ankara, and it is one of a number of paintings I will talk about in my presentation there in connection with my exhibit. I will post a few more of my Ankara paintings from 2006 in the next few days - while packing and frantically getting ready for our trip. Technically, I feel that I've developed and progressed since then, but this still brings back a very visceral sense of being there that is close to my heart. This lively market, frequented by local people, still exists, but its existence always seems precarious. There have been rumours of it being razed to make place for something more new and modern. This is why I wanted to make a painting of it, in a way to preserve its existence. If you feel inclined to leave a comment, your feedback will be much appreciated!
